Chapter Eleven: The Great Mystery.

The seven remained speechless.
Michael walked slowly among the empty Living Canopies, his hand gently brushing the edge of Daniel's resting place.
"What you have experienced..." he said quietly, "...was your final training."
He rested his hand upon the canopy.
"This is no ordinary resting place. It is one of Heaven's Living Canopies—a place prepared by the Almighty long before mankind existed."
The angels behind him listened in silence.
"When each of you stood before the Throne and volunteered for this calling, you believed obedience was simple. You believed mankind was weak. You believed none of you could ever fail."
One by one, the seven lowered their heads.
Michael turned back towards the canopies.
"These joined your spirits to seven people presently living upon the Earth."
Every head lifted.
"Real people?" Rachel asked softly.
Michael nodded.
"Yes. There truly is a Daniel. A Rachel. A Tim. A Bobby. A Sidney. A Cathy. And a Tom."
"They have lived every moment of their earthly lives."
"You did not replace them."
"You did not possess them."
"You experienced life exactly as they experienced it."
Confusion spread across their faces.
Sidney frowned.
"It was like..." he whispered, searching for the words. "...seeing through their eyes."
A gentle smile crossed Michael's face.
"Exactly."
"You felt what they felt."
"You feared what they feared."
"You faced every temptation they faced."
"You shared their joys and endured their grief."
"You experienced humanity from within."
The truth began to settle upon them.
Daniel stared at the crystal floor.
"So my mother..."
He struggled to finish.
"There really was a woman who died?"
Michael's expression softened.
"Yes."
"She still died."
"And the bitterness you carried belongs to the man whose life bears your name."
Daniel closed his eyes.
The grief he had carried had been real.
The tears had been real.
The loss had been real.
Only the life had never been his.
Tom spoke next, his voice barely audible.
"My crimes..."
"My lies..."
"The drugs..."
Michael met his gaze.
"They remain the burdens of the real Tom."
"He still lives with every choice he has made."
Tom felt the weight of those words settle upon him.
Rachel slowly looked towards Michael.
"My addiction..."
"My shame..."
"The night I found Christ..."
Michael nodded.
"They belong to the woman named Rachel."
"But the hope you felt..."
"The freedom..."
"The peace..."
"...those were gifts from God, just as real as everything else you experienced."
Rachel's eyes filled with tears.
"So she's still walking with Him?"
"She is."
A smile, small but genuine, appeared through her tears.
Bobby spoke quietly.
"My father worked himself to exhaustion so I could have a better life."
"Was that real too?"
"It was."
"And he still loves his son."
Bobby swallowed hard.
For the first time, ambition no longer seemed impressive.
Tim looked thoughtful.
"So every question I asked..."
"Every investigation..."
"Every search for truth..."
Michael smiled.
"They were the journey of another man."
"But they also became yours."
Tim slowly nodded.
He understood.
Knowledge alone had never been enough.
Cathy's voice broke the silence.
"I truly believed I had encountered beings from another world."
"You did."
Michael's answer surprised them all.
"The deception was real."
"The experiences were real."
"But their source was not what the world believes."
Cathy lowered her head.
Years of certainty crumbled in a single moment.
Finally Sidney spoke.
"My lottery win..."
"The signs..."
"They weren't from God?"
Michael answered gently.
"No."
"They were part of another deception."
Sidney closed his eyes.
The foundation upon which he had built his life suddenly felt empty.
Silence settled over the chamber once more.
This time it was different.
No one spoke because no one could.
Each of them was remembering a lifetime that had never truly belonged to them, yet had somehow become part of who they were.
At last Daniel looked towards Michael.
"Why?"
"Why did God allow us to experience all of this?"
Michael's eyes moved across each of them.
"Because before you understood mankind..."
"...you judged mankind."
"You believed obedience required only strength."
"You believed righteousness came easily."
"You believed failure belonged only to the weak."
He paused.
"Now you know differently."
"You have felt grief."
"You have known fear."
"You have wrestled with temptation."
"You have experienced loss."
"Y
ou have discovered mercy."
"And you have learned that those who walk by faith upon the Earth do so without seeing what you have always seen."
The words settled deep within every heart.
For the first time since their awakening, none of them saw humanity as weak.
Instead...
they saw mankind as courageous.
They had judged humanity...
without ever understanding humanity.
