Chapter Eight: The Serpent's New Strategy

The kingdom of darkness had failed.
Seventeen years of searching...
Months of carefully planned assassinations...
Every accident.
Every bullet.
Every collapsing structure.
Every desperate attempt...
had been thwarted by the unseen armies of Heaven.
God had made His position unmistakably clear.
The seven would live.
For now.
Deep beneath the Earth, inside one of Satan's many underground palaces, silence filled the vast throne room.
No demon dared move.
The giant serpent slowly circled his throne, studying each of his assembled followers with eyes that seemed to penetrate their every thought.
The frog-eyed demons trembled.
Some had personally overseen the failed attempts.
Others silently prayed—not to God, but to themselves—that today would not be the day Satan chose to vent his fury upon them.
Finally...
he stopped.
A slow smile crossed his face.
"You have all been thinking too small."
No one replied.
"You sought to destroy them."
"You failed."
He looked toward the great black triangle floating silently in the centre of the chamber.
Its surface had become darker than ever before.
Countless fallen spirits continued disappearing into its depths like smoke drawn into an endless abyss.
"Our victory has never depended upon killing God's servants."
He gently placed one hand upon the strange object.
"It depends upon owning them."
The chamber remained silent.
"They belong to God..."
"...only while they choose His ways."
Another smile appeared.
"So let us teach them to choose ours."
The frog-eyed demons grinned.
They understood.
This was the serpent's greatest weapon.
Not violence.
Temptation.
Not force.
Deception.
The battle for the seven had truly begun.

Daniel
…graduated near the top of his university class.
Within only a few years, he had become one of the youngest executives in a rapidly expanding international company.
His future looked limitless.
His mother never missed an opportunity to tell people how proud she was of him.
She remained the one constant certainty in his life.
The one person who believed in him before anyone else did.
Satan watched quietly.
He knew exactly where Daniel's heart rested.
Unknown to Daniel...
His mother carried a secret.
Years earlier, during a difficult season in her marriage, she had entered into a brief affair.
She had buried the guilt.
Confessed it to no one.
Carried it alone.
The wound remained hidden.
The serpent smiled.
Unrepented sin became fertile ground for darkness.
Soon afterwards she received devastating news.
Cancer.
Aggressive.
Relentless.
Within three months...
she was gone.
Daniel stood beside her grave, unable to comprehend what had happened.
Friends from church spoke gently.
"She's with the Lord."
God has a purpose."
Daniel heard every word.
He rejected everyone.
"If God exists..."
he whispered through clenched teeth,
"...He doesn't deserve my worship."
The bitterness took root.
The serpent smiled.
One chain...
had been fastened.

Tim
…possessed an extraordinary gift for business.
Everything he touched prospered.
Investments multiplied.
Companies expanded.
Awards filled his office.
Magazine covers called him a visionary.
The frog-eyed demons quietly opened doors before him.
One influential meeting led to another.
The right introductions.
The perfect opportunities.
The success seemed almost supernatural.
Tim believed it was simply hard work.
Soon...
he no longer had time for questions about eternity.
Profit became his purpose.
Success became his identity.
Without noticing...
his wealth slowly became his master.

Bobby
…never forgot growing up poor.
He worked harder than anyone.
Eventually...
promotion came.
Then another.
Then another.
His company loved ambition.
Especially ruthless ambition.
The more uncompromising Bobby became...
the faster he climbed.
Compassion slowed careers.
Humility went unnoticed.
Self-interest brought applause.
Before long...
he scarcely recognised himself.
The gentle young man who once worked to support his struggling family slowly disappeared beneath ambition.
Every promotion tightened another invisible thread around his soul.

Rachel’s
…Story broke Heaven's heart.
She had grown up surrounded by prayer.
She knew the Scriptures.
She loved singing in church.
Then came Toni.
He arrived charming.
Funny.
Broken.
She believed she could save him.
Instead...
He introduced her to drugs.
First for fun.
Then to escape.
Finally...
because she no longer believed she could live without them.
Crack cocaine destroyed almost everything.
Her parents pleaded.
Her church prayed.
Friends disappeared.
Only Toni remained.
Or so she believed.
The serpent watched with satisfaction.
Every addiction forged another chain.
Every lie whispered,
"God has abandoned you."
Yet...
deep within Rachel's heart...
one tiny spark still refused to die.
Heaven noticed.
So did Hell.

Cathy
No one fascinated the kingdom of darkness more than Cathy.
Her lifelong search for intelligent life beyond Earth had made her famous.
Books.
Television.
Conferences.
Governments quietly requested her advice.
Then...
It happened.
Late one evening, while driving through an isolated desert highway, brilliant lights descended from the sky.
A silent craft hovered above her car.
Impossible.
Triangular.
Jet black.
Without warning...
She was lifted effortlessly from the ground.
The experience felt utterly real.
Strange beings surrounded her.
Large black eyes.
Thin bodies.
Voices inside her mind.
They claimed to come from another world.
They spoke of peace.
Evolution.
Human destiny.
When Cathy awoke hours later...
She believed every moment had happened.
She dedicated the rest of her life to telling the world.
Millions believed her.
The demons celebrated.
Another perfect lie.
For there had been no extraterrestrials.
Only fallen angels masquerading as beings from the stars.
Exactly as Satan intended.

Sidney
…became an internet sensation.
Millions followed his videos.
When he won a lottery worth twenty million pounds after what he described as a series of impossible supernatural signs...
his fame exploded.
Interviewers asked whether God had spoken to him.
Sidney laughed.
"No."
"The universe simply gave me a sign."
The serpent smiled.
Another soul looking everywhere...
except Heaven.
His fortune bought mansions.
Cars.
Luxury.
Followers.
Yet not a single genuine friend.

Tom
…could never satisfy the expectations placed upon him.
When he failed...
he lied.
When he feared disappointment…
He lied again.
Soon, lying became easier than truth.
He secretly paid others to complete important examinations.
His parents proudly celebrated achievements that were never really his.
Their wealthy friends admired the remarkable young man.
None suspected the truth.
Debt followed deception.
The people who had helped him cheat demanded repayment.
Money he did not possess.
They offered another solution.
Deliver drugs.
Only to wealthy clients.
Only among influential circles.
No one would suspect him.
Tom accepted.
One compromise became another.
Soon he was trapped.
His expensive suits concealed a frightened young man living two completely different lives.
To society...
He was successful.
To criminals...
He belonged to them.
Sometimes, late at night, he wondered how everything had gone so wrong.
Then he buried the thought.
Fear became easier than honesty.
And somewhere in the darkness...
the serpent quietly whispered,
"One more lie."
"Just one more."

Far beneath the Earth...
Satan stood before the floating triangle.
One by one, images of the seven appeared upon its dark surface.
Daniel...
consumed by bitterness.
Tim...
blinded by success.
Bobby...
captivated by ambition.
Rachel...
enslaved by addiction.
Cathy...
deceived by counterfeit wonders.
Sidney...
trusting signs instead of God.
Tom...
bound by lies and fear.
The frog-eyed demons admired their master's work.
"My lord..."
"They're almost ready."
Satan smiled coldly.
"Not yet."
He looked lovingly upon the black triangle as though it were his greatest masterpiece.
"The world still waits."
"But when the appointed day arrives..."
"...both these seven..."
"...and all mankind..."
"...will be invited to witness the greatest deception ever conceived."
His eyes burned with anticipation.
"They will not believe they are meeting demons."
"They will believe..."
"...they are meeting the creators of mankind."
Around the throne room, thousands of fallen spirits erupted into chilling laughter.
The stage...
was almost set.
