Chapter Four: Born Into Another Life
The command of the Almighty echoed throughout Heaven.
Then...
everything became still.
No wind stirred.
No voices sang.
Even the countless hosts of Heaven stood silently before the Throne.
The seven remained kneeling.
Their hearts were filled with excitement.
None of them imagined what was about to happen.
The Almighty spoke once more.
"My beloved children..."
"You have desired to know mankind."
"You have believed you would never depart from My ways."
"I do not send you to condemn them..."
"I send you to understand them."
His words carried no anger.
Only perfect love.
"You shall each live the life of another."
"You shall know what they know."
"You shall feel what they feel."
"You shall face what they face."
"But remember..."
"I shall never leave you."
The seven lifted their heads.
Before each of them appeared what looked like a living curtain of light.
Inside every curtain...
another life unfolded.
Seven human lives.
Seven different families.
Seven different beginnings.
Michael stepped forward.
"These are the people whose names you bear."
Daniel looked into the light before him.
A tiny newborn baby lay asleep in a hospital cot.
Beside him stood smiling parents.
His father wore an expensive suit despite the late hour.
His mother gently stroked the baby's face.
"They'll call him Daniel," Michael said.
Daniel watched in silence.
The child looked nothing like him.
Yet somehow...
he already felt connected.
Tim looked into his own curtain.
Another child.
Another family.
Newspapers lay scattered across the hospital chair.
His father was already speaking excitedly about journalism, politics and changing the
world through truth.
Rachel's curtain revealed something very different.
A modest family home.
Her parents knelt beside the baby's cot.
The first words the little girl ever heard were prayers thanking God for her safe
arrival.
Rachel smiled.
"They love the Lord."
"They do," Michael answered.
Bobby's curtain showed hardship.
A cramped home.
Peeling wallpaper.
A tired father removing his work boots after a fourteen-hour shift.
His mother quietly counted coins at the kitchen table.
Yet both smiled as they looked at their son.
"They have little," Michael said.
"But they possess great love."
Cathy's curtain revealed another ordinary family.
Curious.
Intelligent.
Her parents filled the house with books, documentaries and endless questions about
the universe.
From her earliest years, she would be taught that humanity's future lay among the
stars.
Sidney's family lived in a world of cameras, technology and constant entertainment.
His father loved gadgets.
His mother adored attention.
Together they celebrated every achievement publicly.
"One day," Michael quietly said,
"Millions will know his face."
Finally...
Tom looked into the last curtain.
Luxury.
A magnificent home.
Prestigious schools.
Expensive cars.
Parents admired throughout society.
Yet behind every smile...
pressure.
Expectation.
Perfection.
Failure simply wasn't tolerated.
Tom watched the little boy sleeping peacefully.
"He has everything."
Michael slowly looked at him.
"Does he?"
Tom remained silent.
The seven continued watching.
Years passed before their eyes in moments.
Children became teenagers.
Teenagers became adults.
Each life unfolded differently.
Daniel grew into a brilliant businessman.
Tim developed an insatiable desire to uncover truth.
Bobby left school early to help provide for his struggling family.
Rachel grew up surrounded by faith...
before eventually running from it.
Cathy became fascinated with unexplained aerial phenomena.
Sidney discovered the power of influencing millions through the internet.
Tom slowly learned that lying earned approval...
while failure brought disappointment.
The spirit-beings watched every moment.
Sometimes laughing.
Sometimes weeping.
Sometimes completely bewildered.
Daniel spoke softly.
"Why doesn't he simply forgive?"
Michael answered,
"Because he is wounded."
Rachel whispered,
"Why doesn't she go home?"
"Because shame convinces many people they no longer belong."
Tom frowned.
"He only had to tell the truth."
Michael looked at him compassionately.
"So you believe."
Far beneath the Earth...
Satan watched the same lives.
The enormous black triangular stone floated silently before him.
Its surface pulsed with strange energy.
The frog-eyed demons stood surrounding it like priests attending a dark altar.
"My Lord," one hissed.
"The seven have entered."
Satan smiled.
"Excellent."
The demon looked puzzled.
"Can they truly be harmed?"
"We shall soon see."
"If they can not be destroyed"
His smile widened.
"They shall be shaped."
Another demon stepped forward.
"Our influence grows."
"Scientists search the stars."
"Governments investigate strange aerial phenomena."
"Millions now believe intelligent beings seeded life upon the Earth."
Satan slowly walked around the floating triangle.
"For centuries..."
"...we have whispered."
"We have inspired stories."
"We have encouraged sightings."
"We have rewarded those who spread them."
The black object slowly rotated.
"It grows stronger."
"Yes."
"Soon mankind will believe the impossible."
One frog-eyed watcher snarled.
"They already reject their Creator."
Satan shook his head.
"That is no longer enough."
"I do not merely want them to deny God."
"I want them to embrace a replacement."
His hand rested upon the black stone.
"When the appointed day comes..."
"We shall descend."
"Not as demons."
"Not as monsters."
"But as enlightened visitors."
"The creators."
"The saviours."
"The answer humanity has searched for."
Around him...
every demon bowed.
"The world will call it..."
The frog-eyed watcher smiled wickedly.
"...Disclosure."
Satan closed his eyes.
"And every nation will rejoice."
Back in Heaven...
the seven remained captivated by the human lives before them.
Daniel watched the businessman lose his mother.
Rachel watched the young girl slowly drift away from God.
Tom watched the wealthy boy become trapped inside his own lies.
They still believed...
they would choose differently.
Michael quietly looked towards the Throne.
The Almighty already knew otherwise.
Very soon...
the seven would no longer simply watch these lives.
They would believe...
they were living them.
